Restyling jewelry at Scott’s

It’s actually pretty easy (and fun) to restyle your jewelry at Scott’s.

First, we’ll meet and start looking at styles and see what jewelry we have to work with. Then, we’ll start sketching and creating, together!

Using our CAD (computer aided design) technology, we’ll design a ring, pendant, bracelet or even earrings that will fit your jewels perfectly! We’ll send you photos of the new pieces, in several angles, so that you get a good sense of what the finished piece could look like.

Need to make a change – no problem! And no service fees!

Once we’ve got the look right, we’ll make a model of the piece with our 3D printers, paint it the color of gold you’ve chosen, and actually place the stones in it for you to try on. That’s the fun part!

With the model, we’ve eliminated “surprises” and you still can make changes.

And when you’re satisfied, we’ll get to work casting the piece into gold, setting the stones and making it all ready for you, all here in our Dublin, Ohio store!

How Scott’s is being eco-friendly

We make our jewelry all in-house, here in our Dublin, Ohio custom jewelry store. And, in the almost 22 years we’ve been in business, we’ve never had to buy virgin gold to cast our pieces.

Instead, we take the old gold and platinum mountings that our customers trade in, and send them to a refiner who turns it into pure gold casting pieces. (It’s jewelry magic!!)

Another way that Scott’s is eco-friendly, is that we offer American-made, lab grown diamonds to our customers. Exactly the same physically, chemically and optically as diamonds mined from the earth, lab grown diamonds are an environmentally friendly option. Plus they cost 50-70% less than mined diamonds!

So if you want to add some more bling to your ring – lab grown diamonds are the way to go!

Surround it with a custom diamond halo!

Whether you keep it in a ring, or even restyle it into a custom diamond pendant, adding a halo of small diamonds will make it not only appear bigger, but make it sparkle even more.  The secret is in the custom design.

With our CAD (computer aided design) technology, we trace the diamond exactly so that there are no spaces between the original diamond and the halo.  The result is a seamless sea of diamonds, which fool the eye into making it look much bigger.  We jokingly say it’s like a push-up bra for your diamond

Dana had her original center diamond laying loose in her jewelry box.  She decided to make it into a custom necklace because she wanted to wear it everyday, close to her heart.  The design is simple, yet stunning.  And she can also wear it with other longer necklaces, which is very hip.

Scott has other tricks up his sleeve too, when it comes to diamond halos.  He can even change the shape of the diamond – say into a princess cut stone from a round diamond.  More on that later!

We all have those pieces of jewelry in the bottom of our jewelry box that we don’t wear.  We call them jewelry ghosts – they randomly appear, we stare at them in disbelief (“Did I really wear that!”) and quickly close the lid.

Take that 1980’s style blue sapphire and diamond necklace for example.  Your remember it – the one that came down to a pointed V (and never was straight), made of 14k yellow gold with a herringbone chain (that kinked the first time you wore it) with clusters of sapphires and diamonds.

It was The Necklace.  You wore it to every wedding, holiday party and formal event.  And because you did, you can’t bring yourself to get rid of it.  And you shouldn’t – we have a solution.

Marcia had one of those necklaces.  Even though she still works outside of the home, she doesn’t have to dress up like she used to.  And she just loves the beach.

So, we created a fun, whimsical, sea-life themed pendant using her gemstones.  With CAD technology, we were able to measure her sapphires and diamonds, then make the custom pendant around those stones.  We even took her old gold as trade-in towards her new custom jewelry, making this piece even more affordable.

The result:  A gorgeous custom pendant that she can wear everyday, not just for formal occasions.  And the best part?  We all had fun designing it!

A diamond stick pin finds a new home as custom designed jewelry.

It’s in a box on the top shelf of your closet.  Or maybe it’s in a sock in your underwear drawer. Doesn’t matter – we all have it.  That hidden stash of Grandma’s jewelry.

It’s not that we don’t like it.  We just don’t know how to wear it again.  I mean, really, who wears stick pins anymore!

That’s where Scott’s Custom Jewelers comes in.  An elderly woman brought in a small pouch of old jewelry for us to evaluate.  Some of it was costume.  Others were sterling silver pieces, now black with tarnish.  After a little dipping and polishing, we brought those pieces back to life, no problems.

But there was that diamond stick pin.  And Grandma’s plain white gold wedding band.

The solution was almost too simple.  We used the wedding band as a frame, and attached the top of the diamond stick pin to the piece, creating a very modern, yet vintage, pendant.

We simply polished the finished custom diamond pendant, and hung it from a chain.  You could even still see the original engraving on the inside!

The woman was ecstatic!  Even better, her 20-something granddaughter, who was with her, asked if she could wear it for her wedding!  Something old and something new, all in one!

It’s amazing what you can do with a little imagination.  What’s lurking in your closet?

Gail came to us recently with a baggie full of jewelry she found when she cleaned out her jewelry box.  There were several gold chains, a diamond tennis bracelet and a few rings to boot.  These were pieces that she didn’t wear anymore.  Jewelry from the 80s, broken items, rings that didn’t match her style anymore.

And she had her wedding ring – a very pretty pear shaped diamond, set in 14k yellow gold.

The problem was that she now preferred white gold jewelry. It goes with everything, and can be mixed easily with the more fashionable, sterling silver jewelry that she often wore.

She loved her pear shaped diamond, especially since her husband had scrimped and saved to purchase it years ago.  But she also loved the look of an oval diamond.

Enter jewelry magic.

Scott and Gail worked together using Scott’s Custom Jewelers CAD technology, and designed a stunning, 14k white gold diamond ring that made her pear shaped diamond turn into an oval.  They decided on a unique, double halo effect to really accentuate the oval shape, and used more diamonds on the split double band.  Best of all, most of the diamonds came from her own, unworn jewelry!

The new custom wedding ring is not only gorgeous, but goes with everything.  And because she recycled so much of her old jewelry, it was very affordable.
