At Scott’s Custom Jewelers in Dublin, Ohio, we actually specialize in custom jewelry made just for you. As a 4th generation jeweler, we’ve perfected the design process and have created thousands of heirloom-quality pieces over the past 25 years. We use CAD technology and 3D printers (we currently have 3!), to design each piece, then cast them into gold or platinum and set the stones, all on-site in our store.
With custom jewelry, every design starts with your input and ideas, and ends with a sparkle that’s completely your own. Here’s what to expect — and how long it really takes — to bring your custom ring to life.
Step 1: The Design Consultation (1-2 weeks)
Your custom ring journey begins with a design appointment. We’ll sit down with you (in person or virtually via ZOOM) to talk about your ideas, budget, and inspiration. This is where the fun begins! Bring all the photos, sketches, Pinterest boards, and any sentimental piece of jewelry you’d like to reuse — like grandma’s diamonds or an old engagement setting.
This is also a great time to go through that jewelry box and recycle all those mismatched earrings, broken chains and out-of-style pieces you don’t wear anymore. We’ll remove any stones for you, recycle the gold, then credit you that amount off your new jewelry.
From there, we’ll create sketches or CAD renderings so you can see exactly how your design will look from multiple angles, before it’s made. We can also easily give you options of on metal color or added design features.
Average time: 1–2 weeks, depending on revisions and design complexity.
Step 2: Final Design Approval (about 1 week)
Once you’ve reviewed your renderings, we’ll make any small tweaks before production begins. Most clients approve their design within a few days, but we always allow about a week to make sure it’s perfect.
Step 3: Crafting Your Custom Ring (3–6 weeks)
Here’s where our jewelers bring your vision to life. Your ring is cast, set, and polished by hand with care and precision.
- Classic solitaire or simple settings: 2–4 weeks
- Detailed or heirloom remount designs: 4–6 weeks
